The illustration concepts were largely inspired by this passage from the article: "People like to say we’re natural creators, that we’re born with a desire make things. I believe that just like love, we should consider that everyone has an impulse to create they just need to be taught how to access and act upon their innate creative energy. This is where creative practice ought to come in, and where our current education system would do well to veer into the less-charted waters. This includes those nontraditional educational models that are traditional models for creative practice, and by extension creative consciousness."
Patsy & Francine takes place at fictional Jerry Collins College, it’s a four-year college. The project included developing the identities of two awkward characters by designing their entire physical environment (Jerry Collins College branding, the College’s hot-dog restaurant branding, and their dorm room door and interior). The characters filmed instructional videos such as “how to feed a horse” and “how to prepare for sleep,” created promotional items for their tutoring service, and participated in invented extracurricular activities. The goal of this project was to explore how signs and symbols that are meaningful within a specific culture, when applied to individuals, things, places, etcetera, give those things an identity.
